Luxury spa days on the Yorkshire coast

Two very different takes on coastal luxury, minutes apart from Whitby and Scarborough: a two-MICHELIN-Key wellness retreat built from scratch, and a country-house spa reborn on the edge of the North York Moors.

Saltmoore

££££

A two-MICHELIN-Key wellness hotel at Sandsend near Whitby, reopened in November 2024 after a major rebuild of the former Raithwaite Hall.

The consensus

Saltmoore is the November 2024 rebrand and reopening of the former Raithwaite Hall (Raithwaite Estate) after a major refurbishment, and it landed Two MICHELIN Keys in the 2025 selection — some older links and reviews still reference the Raithwaite name. The wellness offer runs to roughly 50,000 sq ft, with Wildsmith Skin and Germaine de Capuccini treatments, a pool, gym and wellness café alongside two dining venues; Spa & Stay packages start from around £610 for two sharing, including breakfast, dining credit and a treatment. An independent Head for Points review, a genuine paid stay, called it "far above anything else" on the Yorkshire coast, beaten in North Yorkshire only by Grantley Hall and Swinton Estate — but it also flagged a breakfast buffet that was "a bit too traditional," slow service on the reviewer's first day, and a pool that's "a little small," not competing with the top UK wellness hotels. TripAdvisor reviewers separately note occasional spa overcrowding and booking issues.

Asquith Hall Hotel & Spa

££

A Grade II listed Victorian country house on the edge of the North York Moors, 15 minutes from Scarborough, with an 18+ spa.

The consensus

Asquith Hall is the 2025 rebrand of the well-known Ox Pasture Hall Country House Hotel & Spa — same address, same 17-acre grounds on the North York Moors' edge, same purpose-built spa building — so older reviews and links referencing Ox Pasture Hall are describing the same venue. The Grade II listed house sits around 15 minutes from Scarborough, and the spa itself is genuinely age-gated at 18+, even though the wider hotel isn't an adults-only property. Facilities run to a thermal spa, pool, sauna, steam room, ice fountain and gym, with a Half Spa Day (2.5 hours, treatment and lunch) at £75, a Full Spa Day (4 hours) at £140, and a £25 access-only Spa Day Pass. Early reviews under the new name are strongly positive on staff, rooms and the spa itself, though it's worth being upfront that this is a fairly newly rebranded property with a thinner review history than some of the coast's more established spas.
