Luxury spa days near Harrogate for a girls' weekend

Harrogate's spa heritage runs deep, and these three — one of them built on the town's own natural spring water — make a proper base for a weekend with the girls.

Rudding Park

£££
Good gift experience

A rooftop spa near Harrogate using natural spring water from the estate, with a Michelin-starred restaurant and a Best New Spa in the UK award from 2017.

The consensus

Rudding Park's Roof Top Spa opened in 2017 and was named Best New Spa in the UK that year by the Good Spa Guide, which has since given it a five-bubble luxury rating again. It draws on genuine natural spring water from the estate, a real link to Harrogate's Victorian spa heritage, alongside a hydrotherapy infinity pool, Brass Monkey ice baths, four themed relaxation zones, and a one-Michelin-star restaurant on site. Buyagift packages range from £115 for a one-person evening spa-and-dine to £317 for a spa morning, treatment and brunch for two, with overnight packages from £642 for two. TripAdvisor rates it the top-ranked spa in Harrogate with a Travelers' Choice award, and reviews are overwhelmingly positive. The one recurring gripe, especially in recent reviews, is a mandatory discretionary service charge added to individual items and drinks, which some guests have found came as an unwelcome surprise rather than being made clear upfront.

Grantley Hall

Good gift experience

A five-star hotel and spa on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, with a Michelin-starred restaurant and a Nordic-style ice bath and snow room setup.

The consensus

Grantley Hall opened in 2019 on 37 acres at the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and holds a five-star rating alongside Shaun Rankin's Michelin-starred restaurant on site. The Three Graces Spa takes a Nordic approach — ice baths, a snow room, and a heated outdoor Nordic Spa Garden — and deliberately caps guest numbers, which the Good Spa Guide singled out with a five-bubble luxury rating specifically for how rarely it feels crowded. There's no fixed spa-day price published: a light spa lunch alone runs £40pp, and a full day with a 60-minute treatment, lunch, thermal facilities and Nordic garden access starts above £200pp. TripAdvisor reviewers are largely glowing about the hotel overall, though at least one detailed stay review broke from that pattern to call the spa treatments themselves underwhelming for a property at this price point — worth knowing before booking treatments specifically rather than just the facilities.

Wood Hall

Good gift experience

A Georgian country house hotel near Wetherby, about 25 minutes from Harrogate, with a small pool-and-treatment-room spa run by Hand Picked Hotels.

The consensus

Wood Hall is a 44-bedroom Georgian country house near Wetherby run by the Hand Picked Hotels group, AA four-star rated with a two-AA-rosette restaurant. The spa itself is modest by comparison with the estate-scale spas nearby — a pool, jacuzzi, sauna and two treatment rooms using Elemis products — better suited to a swim and a single treatment than a full day out. TripAdvisor reviews sit around 4.3 out of 5 from just over a hundred reviews, generally positive about the setting and staff, but with a recurring thread about inconsistent attention to detail and at least one specifically disappointing afternoon tea. Spabreaks.com packages start from £160.50pp. It earns its place here on the strength of the Georgian house itself and its proximity to Harrogate rather than as a destination spa in its own right — a good add-on for a weekend, not the main event.
