Five spa days built for two rather than one, from a Wensleydale riverside spa you hire for yourselves to a private treatment room overlooking Windermere with its own copper salt bath. Each is a standing offer you can book now, and Carden Park has already published a Valentine's evening for 11 to 15 February 2027.

A family-run, five-red-star hotel near Windermere with a Michelin-starred restaurant and private Spa Suites with their own sauna and jacuzzi.
For this guide: Gilpin's entry above covers the hotel and its spa suites; the spa days are a separate, genuinely couple-first product. Each is booked for two at the Spa Space, with no other guests sharing the facilities. The Thermal Spa & Spice is £190 per couple: a salt-and-oil scrub, a mud rasul, a soak in the private cedarwood hot tubs with a glass of Champagne and a bento lunch. The Serene Spa Experience is £410 per couple and adds a 50-minute couple's treatment. The showpiece is Spa & Source at £470 per couple Sunday to Friday (£500 on Saturdays and bank holidays): an afternoon couple's treatment, Champagne in the hot tubs, then the early-evening ORIGIN dining experience in its Michelin-starred restaurant, SOURCE, about five hours in all. Non-residents can book the Gilpin Hotel spa experiences. The hotel is not adults-only (it welcomes children from seven), but these sessions are private to the two of you.
The consensus
Gilpin Hotel & Lake House is a family-run, AA Five Red Star, Relais & Châteaux property near Windermere, holding Two MICHELIN Keys and home to the Michelin-starred SOURCE restaurant alongside the more casual Gilpin Spice. Its private Spa Suites and Spa Lodges each come with their own sauna, jacuzzi and steam room, and the Jetty Spa Experience package pairs a treatment with private pool use; classic bedrooms start from around £295 a night in summer, with Spa Suites from around £890. TripAdvisor rates it 4.7 out of 5 across close to 2,500 reviews, and the independent Good Hotel Guide covers it favourably too — the overwhelming majority of feedback is glowing on welcome, staff and setting. It isn't flawless, though: a small number of more recent reviews describe an unwelcoming check-in experience, and a few guests have raised maintenance niggles or questioned value for money against the price, worth weighing against the otherwise strong consensus.
An adults-only lakeside spa on Windermere with a heated outdoor infinity pool, hot tubs and a wood-fired sauna, open to non-residents for spa days.
For this guide: The Hideaway Retreat is the couples' product here: a private treatment room for two with heated beds, a copper salt bath and a buckwheat bed overlooking Windermere. It is priced from £600 for the couple. That covers a 110-minute ESPA treatment (body scrub, facial cleanse, salt-bath soak, back-and-leg massage and a warm-oil head massage), a three-hour thermal journey through the indoor and outdoor spa, a two-course lunch or wood-fired afternoon tea in Blue Smoke, and a glass of Prosecco. The spa's minimum age is 16, and vouchers are sold on the resort's site.
The consensus
The Spa at Low Wood Bay sits on the Windermere shoreline and is built around its outdoor space: a heated infinity pool, hot tubs and a wood-fired Fellside sauna facing the lake, with an indoor thermal suite of dry salt sauna, steam rooms and a herbal lounge behind them. It is adults-only (16 and over). Day visitors can book from £69 for a two-hour twilight session, from £85 for a midweek three-hour thermal journey, or from £175 with a 50-minute treatment. The Good Spa Guide named it Best Spa in the North West in 2025, and TripAdvisor rates the resort 4.4 out of 5 across more than 5,500 reviews, with the spa the most praised element. Complaints centre on cost: hotel guests pay extra for the spa unless they book a spa break, and one reviewer advised waiting for a sale. The whole spa can be hired exclusively for groups.
A restaurant-with-rooms in a converted Victorian school at Bainbridge in Wensleydale, whose riverside Ure River Retreat spa is hired privately by a couple for two hours.
For this guide: The most private option on the list: the Ure River Retreat is hired by the couple rather than shared. The Ure Spa Package is £180 per couple for two hours of private use of the riverside sauna, river-view hot tub and cold shower, with a 30-minute GAIA treatment each (treatments can be upgraded to 60 or 90 minutes). It is booked direct by enquiry rather than online, and the page links to a gift voucher site for it. Yorebridge doesn't publish a minimum age for the spa.
The consensus
Yorebridge House is a restaurant-with-rooms in a converted Victorian school at Bainbridge, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, with three AA Rosettes and around a dozen individually themed bedrooms, several with their own outdoor hot tub. Its Ure River Retreat is a small riverside spa with a timber sauna, a river-view hot tub and a cold shower, run on a private-use basis: the Ure Spa Package is £180 per couple for two hours plus a 30-minute GAIA treatment each. Independent coverage is strong on the house itself: TripAdvisor rates it 4.8 out of 5 across roughly 1,870 reviews, and Country & Town House's hotel guide lists doubles from £220. Independent reviews of the spa are thin so far, because it is new. The recurring caveats are price, creaky floorboards in an old building and the odd worn fitting, such as a tired hot-tub cover.
A purpose-built £10m spa on a 1,000-acre Cheshire estate, with one of the largest adults-only spa gardens in the UK.
For this guide: Carden's spa is strictly 18 and over, and its twilight session is the natural date-night format: the Twilight Dining Experience runs 6pm to 9.30pm with full use of the spa garden and thermal areas, a welcome glass of sparkling wine and a two-course dinner in Elements, from £109 per person. If you add treatments, ask for a dual treatment room when you book, as it has to be selected at the time. Carden has already published a Valentine's edition: the Valentine's Twilight Dining Experience on 11 to 15 February 2027, £139 per person Monday to Thursday and £149 per person Friday to Sunday, with a Valentine's menu in Elements.
The consensus
Carden Park's spa is the most obviously "destination" venue in this guide: a two-storey, purpose-built building set within a 1,000-acre estate near Chester, opening onto roughly 2,500 square metres of adults-only spa garden — outdoor vitality pool, three hot tubs, thermal pods, a fire pit and an all-weather Bollinger champagne bar. Reviewers consistently rate the facilities among the best in the region, with particular praise for the outdoor thermal areas and the calibre of the treatments on offer. An Indulgent Spa Day runs from £155 for access alone, or £269 with a 50-minute treatment included. The honest caveats worth knowing before booking: this is a genuinely expensive day out relative to nearby alternatives, the relaxation areas can feel crowded at peak weekend times, and a few reviews note that treatment-room décor hasn't kept pace with the newer spa-garden areas. None of that is enough to knock it off this list — it's simply the venue where "luxury" comes with the biggest price tag attached.
A Grade II Georgian hall near Nantwich with a glass-roofed pool, hydrotherapy pool and a Rasul mud chamber.
For this guide: Rookery Hall's couples' product is the Bollinger Spa Experience for Two: a 55-minute treatment each (a full-body massage or a luxury facial), a bottle of Bollinger La Grande Année 2015 to share, and access to the spa facilities, from £179 per person, so £358 for two. The spa also has a dual treatment room among its seven and a mud rasul chamber, though the package page doesn't say whether this experience uses either. No minimum age is published on the spa pages, so check when booking. It is also sold as a gift voucher.
The consensus
Rookery Hall is a Grade II-listed Georgian hall built in 1816, set in private gardens just outside Nantwich and run under the Hand Picked Hotels group. Its Health Club & Spa is built around a glass-roofed indoor pool, a separate hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room and seven treatment rooms, including a Rasul mud therapy chamber that's a genuine point of difference from most Cheshire spa hotels — few venues in this guide's catalogue offer one. A spa day for one starts from around £79-£145 depending on the season and offer, rising to roughly £95-£200 for two sharing a Rasul experience. Independent reviews are unusually consistent here: cleanliness and spa standards come up repeatedly as strengths, with no significant recurring complaint turning up across the research for this guide — a genuinely strong track record rather than a mix of highs and lows.
Which of these spas let a couple have a treatment room or the whole spa to themselves?
Low Wood Bay's Hideaway Retreat is a private treatment room for two with its own salt bath, and Yorebridge House hires its whole riverside spa to one couple at a time for two hours. Gilpin's spa days are booked for two with no other guests sharing the facilities. At Carden Park you can ask for a dual treatment room when you book treatments. Rookery Hall has a dual treatment room among its seven, but its Bollinger package page doesn't say whether the experience uses it.
Which of these spas are adults-only?
Carden Park's spa has a strict over-18 policy, and Low Wood Bay's spa has a minimum age of 16. Gilpin Hotel is not adults-only (it welcomes children from seven), but its spa sessions are private to the couple booking them. Yorebridge House and Rookery Hall don't publish a minimum age on the pages checked for this guide, so it is worth asking when you book.
Has anywhere published a Valentine's Day 2027 package yet?
Carden Park has. Its Valentine's Twilight Dining Experience runs on 11 to 15 February 2027 from 6pm to 9.30pm, with a welcome glass of sparkling wine and a Valentine's menu in Elements. It is £139 per person Monday to Thursday and £149 per person Friday to Sunday, so £278 or £298 for two. Gilpin, Low Wood Bay, Yorebridge House and Rookery Hall had not published a Valentine's offer on their own pages when we checked on 13 October 2026, but each of the experiences above is a standing offer you can book now for a date around 14 February.
Can I give any of these as a gift voucher?
Yes for several. Gilpin sells its spa experiences for two as vouchers, Low Wood Bay sells vouchers for its spa, Yorebridge House links to a gift voucher site for its £180 private-use spa package, and Rookery Hall says its Bollinger Spa Experience is available as a gift voucher. Carden Park also sells spa vouchers through its website. Check each voucher's terms before buying, as availability and dates still depend on the venue.
